Bio
Stephen is a strategic and fearless advocate in the courtroom. He is known for his ability to diffuse highly-charged situations so that cooler heads can prevail when resolving contentious family law matters through mediation, arbitration or litigation. Recognizing that every client is different, Stephen effectively adapts his approach to their unique wants, needs, and circumstances to ensure their best interests are protected.
As a partner at Epstein Cole, Stephen’s practice focuses on all areas of family law including custody, mobility, financial, and commercial matters. He has appeared in various levels of court acting on both trial and appellate matters. Stephen has extensive experience representing clients in mediations and arbitrations and has been appointed as a Dispute Resolution Officer for the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto. As a member of the Office of the Children’s Lawyer panel since 1998, Stephen represents children in high-conflict court cases and consults on complex family law issues to protect the rights of children by giving them a strong voice, where necessary.
Stephen is on the editorial review board of the Reports of Family Law and has spoken at a number of conferences on various topics in family law and is a Dispute Resolution Officer in Toronto for the Ministry of the Attorney General.
Stephen can be retained to represent children and is an experienced mediator.
